On November 9, 2025, the Tuscaloosa River Market was filled with light, music, and the unmistakable energy of hope. It was the 10th anniversary of the Bama Against Bullying Fashion Show, a milestone celebration of kindness and confidence that has become one of Tuscaloosa’s most cherished community traditions. For Ella Birdsong, this night meant even more—it marked her eighth year walking the runway and her continued dedication to helping children across Alabama feel seen, supported, and valued.
A Night Where Fashion Meets Purpose
What sets the Bama Against Bullying Fashion Show apart is its heart. Founded by former professional dancer Barbie Perry, the event was born from her desire to transform personal pain into a mission of healing for others. Each year, the show brings together models of all ages, local musicians, dancers, and community leaders—all united by a shared message: kindness matters, and every child deserves to feel safe and confident.
This year’s anniversary event brought together an impressive lineup, including:
- Performances by American Idol finalist Casey Thrasher
- A feature by the iconic University of Alabama Crimsonettes
- Energetic routines from the Street Jam Kidz dance program
- A full runway lineup showcasing styles from local boutiques and shops
Every ticket sold supported anti-bullying initiatives such as the HALT Program in Tuscaloosa City Schools and free dance and mentorship programs offered by Bama Against Bullying itself.
Ella’s Journey: From Participant to State Ambassador
For Ella Birdsong, the runway at the Bama Against Bullying Fashion Show is more than a stage—it’s home. She began participating at a young age, walking shyly alongside her mom, Shena Birdsong, and slowly discovering the power of community, courage, and connection.
Over the past seven-plus years, Ella has grown from a young participant to one of the organization’s most trusted youth leaders, earning the role of State Ambassador. In this position, she travels across Alabama uplifting students, speaking about the importance of standing up to bullies, and encouraging children and teens to show kindness wherever they go.
“Bama Against Bullying restored my confidence,” she often says. “It gave me friendships, strength, and a purpose I want to share with others.”
Ella also gives back as a mentor, supporting younger dancers and models—especially members of the Street Jam Kidz program. She encourages them on and off the stage, reminding them that bravery comes in many forms and that telling their stories can spark change.
Walking the 2025 Runway With Heart
At this year’s 10th anniversary show, Ella once again lit up the runway—her walk confident, joyful, and full of the spark that has come to define her role in the organization. Sharing the evening with her mother made the moment especially meaningful. Together, Ella and Shena celebrated their eighth year participating side by side, symbolizing the family support and community connection at the heart of Bama Against Bullying.
Throughout the evening, Ella greeted participants, cheered on first-time models, and watched proudly as younger ambassadors stepped into leadership roles she once held herself. Her presence—both on stage and backstage—embodied the event’s theme: turning our pain into purpose.
Inspiring a Kinder Alabama
What makes the Bama Against Bullying Fashion Show so special is not just the clothes or the performances—it’s the ripple effect. Every laugh shared, every story told, every brave step on the runway helps spread kindness throughout the community.
Ella Birdsong is a shining example of that ripple.
Through her voice, her leadership, and her unwavering commitment to helping others, she continues to build a safer, more compassionate Alabama—one where no child feels alone. Whether she’s mentoring a young dancer, walking the runway, or speaking to students across the state, Ella brings the same message:
You matter. Your story matters. And kindness can change everything.
